How many people are even "aware" that they are living their lives asleep?

As Anthony DeMello wrote:

“These things will destroy the human race: politics without principle, progress without compassion, wealth without work, learning without silence, religion without fearlessness and worship without awareness.”

and

"Spirituality means waking up. Most people, even though they don't know it, are asleep. They're born asleep, they live asleep, they marry in their sleep, they breed children in their sleep, they die in their sleep without ever waking up. They never understand the loveliness and the beauty of this thing that we call human existence.

"You know, all mystics -Catholic, Christian, non-Christian, no matter what their theology, no matter what their religion -- are unanimous on one thing: that all is well, all is well. Though everything is a mess, all is well. Strange paradox, to be sure. But, tragically, most people never get to see that all is well because they are asleep. They are having a nightmare."Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20403719.post-16829924018478172162007-07-26T13:40:00.000-04:002007-07-26T13:40:00.000-04:00I second Beck. (Pretty Lady suspects that we are due for another Death of Painting year sometime around 2011.) And real artists do not have parents, at least parents that they admit to; parents must provide trust funds and then disappear.

Also, readers are not virtuous; the only truly virtuous people are the liminal people. They, being Powerless, have their own Superior Language with which to subliminally communicate their oppression. Her painting is doing exactly what she wants it to do.

Because the fact is, it is almost completely abstract; there are no literal people, no literal anything (except of course a gold circle, which is abstract in and of itself), but many suggestions.

It is meant to subvert your linear brain and Expand Your Consciousness, to a contemplation of the infinite and the sublime, which it seems to be doing.

The Pretentious, Postmodern version of this agenda will be available as soon as Pretty Lady gets through the current jag of actual inspiration, long enough to finish the tedious job of documentation, and uploads her new website.Pretty Ladyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00342833918614545778noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20403719.post-31111227989320850742007-07-24T17:33:00.000-04:002007-07-24T17:33:00.000-04:00Oh a print of that painting might interest me.You ...Oh a print of that painting might interest me.

You can tell me I'm an ignorant philistine anytime I step over the lines, but I have to comment/query.

Below the dividing line, there seem to be people, of the sorts that populate the obscure backgrounds of many classic paintings. And in the middle, there is an individual in a white robe, but his head is obscured by/part-of the larger world above the dividing line.

And above there, I have few words. It is evocative, but of what exactly I cannot define. Certainly the heavenly realms--the blue and the transparent, liquid pastel shades of yellow/orange seem to indicate. But the meaning of the rest would take me some time to contemplate. Certainly that ring, with everything else seeming to warp or flow around it...

The connection to that homily seems unmistakable, if I'm not totally off.Desert Cathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13656526816699347744noreply@blogger.com
